An early start for once (determined not to oversleep and miss the ferry), and off to Dover. Get there in good time, board the ferry, make small talk with other motorcycle travellers and watch England slip away. 55minutes and £19 (speedferries.com) later I'm riding off into Boulogne and the adventure has begun! France tries to undo me with a small cobbled town but luckily it was dry and I escaped into Belgium without falling off. Made the hostel in the Netherlands for 6pm (the only day I'd be on schedule). Valkenswaard was ok, but very quiet, has very thin roads, very fat cycle lanes and ludicrous traffic junctions where they all meet. Have a couple of beers and wander back to the hostel bored only to have to sleep on the squeakiest bunk bed ever. I was convinced the Italian below was going to think I was up to mischief with all the noises :|
